Recent History
(2120-2188)

2120 Anglian Confederation Colonisation ship ACS Eternal arrives at Chi Draconis and begins colonisation of the Chi Draconis system. Primary settlement efforts are centered upon Chi Draconis VII.

2132 Eurasion Solar Union and Anglian forces skirmish over Chi Draconis VII as both powers continue to expand their colonial settlement programmes. Over the next five years such "border skirmishes" become more frequent.

2133 ESU are forced to leave the Chi Draconis system in the face of overwhelming Anglian aggression.

2134 The Anglian Government on Earth vote to establish a full scale naval base at Chi Draconis. Chi Draconis VII is renamed New Faslane. An Admiralty statement was issued. ".....The Royal Space Naval base at New Faslane will be established to counter future threats against Anglian Confederation Outworld colonial interests in and around the Chi Draconis system. New Faslane will be the home of the fledgling Fifth Fleet...."

2135 The Anglian Confederation moves its Parliament to Albion, which now has population almost as large as England thanks to massive immigration and engineered population growth programmes. The reigning monarch, Charles V, divides his time between palaces in England, Vermont, Ottawa and Albion.

2136 The Anglian Confederation renames itself the New Anglian Confederation and revises its Constitution to include all related colonies as independent members.

"Border skirmishes" with the ESU increase in severity as raids attempt to destroy the slowly increasing sprawl of Naval dockyards, C4I facilities, and logistical areas on New Faslane. Due to damage inflicted in the raids, construction is set back six months.

2137 Cruiser Squadron 4 and Destroyer Squadron 11 are the first ships to be permenently assigned to New Faslane. Over the next three years, the rest of the Fifth Fleet is gradually assigned to the new berthing facilities.

The Eurasian Solar Union declares war against the New Anglian Confederation due to "the hostile actions and intents of the imperialists". Five years of intense warfare known as the First Solar War follows throughout the inner colonies and the Outworlds. Naval base construction is slowed on New Faslane due to the war.

ESU forces invade NAC settlements on Salzburg, but are repelled with heavy losses after fierce fighting. The important NAC Outworld base on Lancelot is taken by an ESU Naval Infantry Assault Division, and an inconclusive skirmish between NAC and ESU space units off Grendel signals the start of major Naval offensives by both sides.

2138 The NAC launch Operation Jester, a counter-thrust against the Eurasians; ESU possessions on Mariana and Trelleborg fall rapidly, but an attempt to take the major colony of Chiang is beaten back. An attempt to retake Lancelot also fails with heavy losses to the Anglian 2nd Drop Cavalry.

2140 Operation Season's End results in the NAC seizing the ESU outposts of Mikhailovka and Showyang, both against heavy resistance.

2141 The New Faslane naval base is declared fully operational.

2142 The Accord of Freisland brings the First Solar War to an end, with the Anglians hailing it as a major victory while the ESU licks its wounds and considers its next move. Human space enjoys an all-too-brief period of relative peace.

King Charles V, visits New Faslane on an inspection tour. He is greatly impressed by the new facilities and this tour becomes the first of many such tours.

2145 The Second Solar War breaks out between on one side; the NAC, the Neu Swabian League and the Romanov Hegemony and on the other, the ESU, the Federal Stats Europa and the Pan African Union following an attack on Romanov Hegemony Outworld installations by the ESU. United Nations Space Command presence prevents the war intruding on the Core system, though combat occurs on several inner colonies.

2155 In a last desperate attempt to change the tide of the war, the ESU assaults the Winchester system with a massive task force. Large troop landings are made on the NAC-held colony, but the Planetary Defence troops hold on stubbornly through Winchester's long and bitter winter.

2156 Fifth Fleet and Third Fleet units under Commander Fifth Fleet (C5F) Rear Admiral Dame Jayne Oppenburger aboard RNS Wayne jump into the Winchester system and soundly defeat the ESU fleet; the Eurasian troops on the planet surrender unconditionally following their fleet's virtual destruction.

2157 The treaty of Khorramshahr brings the Second Solar War to an end.

2158 The Putin Array, an ESU deep space survey astronomical telescope begins operation. Its true use as a intelligence gathering platform used to monitor NAC ship movements through the region around Chi Draconis.

2159 An ESU Gorshkov class cruiser, the VKK Karag arrives in the Chi Draconis system. On being intercepted, the captain of the cruiser immediately surrenders his ship and requests political asylum on behalf of himself and his crew.

2160 The NAC Admiralty authorises construction of a secret base in the uncolonised EQ Pegasi system.

2162 Forces prepare to strike against the NAC construction site at EQ Pegasi. The strike was cancelled at the last minute for fear of revealing the intelligence source which revealed the target. Additionally, the ESU Government were not yet willing to face the NAC in another war until force rebuilding since the Khorramshahr Treaty, was complete.

2163 NAC Naval Base, Niagra Creek quietly becomes operational. On a much smaller scale to the New Faslane base, Niagra Creek provides additional facilites for the Fifth Fleet. A new Cruiser squadron and upgraded Destroyer squadron are immediately assigned to the facilities.

2165 The Third Solar War breaks out as the NAC launch a "blitzkrieg" attack to regain worlds lost to the ESU following the treaty of Khorramshahr. Initial successes falter as the FSE joins the ESU, providing men and materials as well as money to hire mercenary contingents from the Indonesian Commonwealth and the League of Latin American Republics (LLAR).

2166 In a tragic accident, the Eastwood class SDN, RNS Wayne, the flagship of C5F Admiral Dame Jayne Oppenburger is destroyed with along with all hands. All Eastwood class SDN are recalled over time to assess potential reasons for the accident. Fatigue in the primary reactor cores of RNS Eastwood had reach unexpectedly high levels. It was assumed, that this may have led to the destruction of the Wayne, the second hull of the Eastwood class. The Admiralty put out a specification for a new class of Superdreadnought to the major ship construction yards for contract bidding. The eventual design of choice, the Valley Forge class was to replace the soon to be phased out Eastwoods'.

2167 Admiral Lord Jonathan Conway III is assigned as the new Commander Fifth Fleet.

2178 NAC Intelligence discover the true use of the ESU Putin array. With this was realisation that the ESU were fully aware of Niagra Creek since construction began. This signalled a high level shake up of ranking NAC Intelligence Officers. This event brought a truth to the Admiralty. A specialised force was required to deal with C4I assets beyond the level of normal training.

2179 The NAC Raider Group concept is proposed by Janes Defence Group Corporation on Albion.

2182 Following gruelling training of crews and equipment, the Fifth Fleet pronounce the first iteration of Raider Group 23, fully operational and ready for tasking.

2183 The UNSC Survey Cruisers McCaffrey and Niven fail to return from an Outworld survey on the fringe of PAU space; a follow-up mission finds identifiable debris from the Niven, exhibiting obvious signs of battle, but no trace of either the McCaffrey or any hostiles.

The PAU Battlecruiser Kinshasa is engaged and destroyed by an unidentified hostile in the New Lusaka system.

2184 Unexplained attacks and incidents increase in frequency, affecting not only PAU space but other nations as well; with the ongoing state of war between the NAC and ESU, much blame is placed by each power on the other. Both blocs, however, begin to realise that something far more important is happening.

ESU forces launch a major operation against Niagra Creek (EQ Pegasi). Their aim is to capture the NAC base and use it as a foothold for an eventual invasion of New Faslane. The ESU landed ground troops and it was up to planetary defense forces to hold off ESU attacks until the 28th Marine Expeditionary Force could be deployed from New Faslane.

FSE forces, having taken a number of losses to unknown forces begin to suspect both the NAC and ESU. Retaliatory strikes are undertaken against New Faslane and the ESU naval reserve depot at LTT 10257.

In December, NAC Fleet Intelligence recovers the first identifiable alien debris following an encounter near Angel II in which the RNS Prometheus CVBG managed to destroy two ships from an attacking alien group. For the first time, Humanity has positive proof that the attackers are another sentient life-form.

2185 On January 1st, the 23rd Raider Group was tasked with destroying the Putin Array which had provided the ESU with vital intelligence about EQ Pegasi and Chi Draconis. The Admiralty also approved a Operation Cascade, a retaliatory mission to destroy the ESU Naval maintenance facilities in the Vega system. UNSC intervention, unusual in the Outworld Territories helped prevent this stage of the war from escalating any further especially with the threat of a Kra'Vak invasion of human space.

The first co-operative action between the ESU and NAC against the Kra’Vak occurs at the Battle of Sulaxar (Battle of Sulaxar); although tensions still run high (especially in diplomatic circles), the Militaries of both main powers (and several smaller nations) are coming inexorably together in the face of a much greater threat. On 28.07.85, the UN Assembly declares that a state of war now officially exists between all the nations of Humanity and the race known as the Kra’Vak; the first InterSentient War has truly begun.

With the apparent end of the Third Solar War, the ESU show the flag with a good will visit to New Faslane. The ESU SDN, VKK Yosef Stalin accompanied by the Destroyer VKK Dnepr (both veterans of the Battle for EQ Pegasi) were met and escorted to the naval base by RNS Trafalgar and RNS Cape Kennedy (picture).

2186 Carrier Battle Group 101 is reformed (following the loss of RNS Saratoga around the newly constructed Fleet Carrier, RNS Agamemnon. Fifth Fleet also benefits from replacement ships to offset losses accrued at the Battle Of EQ Pegasi and to be ready for any Kra'Vak threat.

2187 Fifth Fleet Cruiser-Destroyer Squadron 31 along with an accompanying task force of NSL, Dutch, and Free Cal-Tex ships drive the Kra'Vak from the NSL Outworld of Rheinhold after it survives five months of siege from the hostile invaders.

2188 Contact is about to be made with the Sa’Vasku.
